Data Discovery: Grid Ribbon

See Grids for an in-depth explanation of grid types.

Changes made in this tab influence the Grid component only (in the current report only).

Grid Formatting

Type

Provides grid type selection:

Flat Grids - Simpler and faster to render than multi-tier grids. The output from a flat grid is identical to that of a multi-tier grid, except that the output of a flat grid has no tiered layers for different levels WITHIN a given dimension.

Flat Multi-Color Grids - A cross between a standard flat grid and a multi-tier grid. The results are presented in a flat structure without tiers for the different hierarchy levels. However, like a multi-tier grid, elements from different levels are represented by a lighter shade of the dimension's color.

Multi-Tier Grids - More complex than flat grids and take longer to render. Each level within a given dimension of a multi-tier grid is represented by a lighter shade of the dimension's color. This makes it easier to discern the grid's data and hierarchy. Note that beyond a certain grid size, the application automatically renders multi-tier grids in flat style.

Spark Line Grids - Semi-graphical representations of data in simple line charts. The data section is replaced with "micro-charts" that are best used to display a large chunk of data where the exact values are not critical. Spark Line Grids behave like the Flat Multi-Color Grid in terms of ROW and COLUMN sections. Spark Line Grids are most commonly used when the COLUMN dimension consists of a time related elements. For details, see Spark Grids.

Spark Bar Grids - Semi-graphical representations of data in simple bar charts. The data section is replaced with "micro-charts" that are best used to display a large chunk of data where the exact values are not critical. Spark Bar Grids behave like the Flat Multi-Color Grid in terms of ROW and COLUMN sections. Spark Bar Grids are most commonly used when the COLUMN dimension consists of a time related elements. For details, see Spark Grids.

Accounting Grids - Depicts the hierarchical nature of the result set. The formatting of each row is dependent on the relative structure of the result set, such that if an element is the parent of any of the elements immediately above or below it in the grid, the element will receive a “higher level” and will receive a different formatting to denote that it is a “parent” within the result set.

Theme

Applies a predefined grid theme to current report. (Your system administrator may add additional chart themes, if necessary.)

NOTE: Changing the report theme in the Report Tab overwrites the current grid theme. Therefore, it is recommended to first set the report theme, and then (if desired) to change the grid theme.

Font Size

Increase/decrease font size of all grid text in unison.

Grid Lines

Make all grid lines thicker/thinner in unison.

Cell Padding

Apply cell padding option to all grid cells in unison:

  • Small Margin
  • Large Margin
  • No Margin
Grid Gradient

Turn on color gradient for all grid cells.

Grid Alignment

Choose a grid alignment option from the nine options.

NOTE: If the grid fills the entire report pane, you may not see the results of changing grid alignment. To see the results, the grid needs to be smaller than the pane. Your grid alignment selection takes effect, even if you cannot currently see the change.

Shadow

Turn on shadow for grid perimeter.

NOTE: Some grid themes have the Shadow option turned on. If you select such a grid theme, the Shadow item will be automatically selected (but you can deselect it, if desired).

Conditional Formatting

Apply Conditional Formatting (CF) to the data section of a grid. For details, see Conditional Formatting.

NOTE: An alternative to the standard CF settings is to use custom cube formatting. Custom cube formatting will allow logical CF background & foreground colors created in the cube to be reflected in the data grid.

Expand Icons

Show or hide plus/minus signs on the grid for easier access to expand/collapse or drill down functionality. See more details, see the Grid Expand Icon Interface.

Grid Images

Specify display format for grid images.

  • Small - Display grid images in small size.
  • Medium - Display grid images in medium size.
  • Large - Display grid images in large size.
  • Aspect Ratio - Display grid image as:
    • Square
    • Portrait Rectangle
    • Landscape Rectangle
    • Original
  • More Options - Open dialog to customize image display.
  • None - Display URL of graphic file (instead of image).

NOTE: The Grid Image button is enabled when images appear in the grid.

Grid Headers

Display hierarchy names within grid:

  • Show Row Headers - Display row hierarchy names.
  • Show Column Headers - Display column hierarchy names.
  • More Options - Open dialog to customize display of row/column hierarchy names.
  • None - Hide hierarchy names.

Columns

Specify formatting of column headers.

Bold

Make column headers bold.

Italic

Make column headers italic.

Font Color

Change color of column headers.

Spacing

Specify behavior of column width:

  • Auto No Wrapping - Do not wrap column header text.
  • Auto Wrapping - Wrap column header text.
  • Custom Settings - Open Custom Settings dialog to specify custom width for columns.
  • Shrink to Data - Shrink column width to match column header text.

NOTE: Column Spacing affects overall column width. Row Spacing affects the width of row headers only. The Shrink to Data command is available for Columns but not for Rows.

Alignment

Specify horizontal/vertical alignment of text within column header cells.

Rows

Specify formatting of row headers.

Bold

Make row headers bold.

Italic

Make row headers italic.

Font Color

Change color of row headers.

Spacing

Specify row header width:

  • Auto No Wrapping - Do not wrap row header text.
  • Auto Wrapping - Wrap row header text.
  • Custom Settings - Open Custom Settings dialog to specify custom width for row headers.

NOTE: Column Spacing affects overall column width. Row Spacing affects the width of row headers only. The Shrink to Data command is available for Columns but not for Rows.

Alignment

Specify horizontal/vertical alignment of text within row header cells.

Data

Specify formatting of data cells.

Bold

Make data cells bold.

Italic

Make data cells italic.

Font Color

Change color of data cells.

Alignment

Specify horizontal/vertical alignment of text within row header cells.

Alternate Rows

Add shading to alternate rows.

Value Formats

Sets mask for formatting data cells on the grid. Choose from a set of predefined masks (that follow the MS Excel standard) or design your own custom mask.

  • Currency - Dollar, Euro, Pound, Shekel, Yuan
  • Percentage
  • Numeric Formats - Accounting, Round to Thousands (K), Round to Millions (M), Decimal, Scientific
  • Custom Format - Assign Custom Value Formatting for data cells.
  • Model Defaults - Restore value format defaults.
Total Formats

Control whether visual totals are highlighted or not. For related info, see Visual Totals.

KPIs

Specify the size of the KPI icons within the grid.

IMPORTANT: The KPIs button is enabled when the underlying query includes KPI measures defined by the cube administrator on the cube server. The KPIs button are not enabled for Customer KPIs that are entered within BI Office.
